Overview

The transportation standard was issued in a regulation (191/11) published in e-laws on June 7, 2011. In June 2011 the Transportation Standard became part of the Integrated Accessibility Standard.

The Accessibility Standard for Transportation will make it easier for everyone to travel in Ontario.

    The standard applies to:

    • conventional transportation services, for example, London Transit and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)
    • specialized transportation services, for example, TTC's Wheel-Trans, and DARTS in Hamilton
    • municipalities with specific requirements for those that license taxicabs or provide conventional transportation services
    • certain ferries
    • other transportation services, for example:
    • public school boards that provide transportation services
    • hospitals, colleges and universities who provide transportation services (for example, shuttle buses)

The requirements of this standard are comprehensive. Some of the requirements went into effect in 2011. The other requirements are being phased in between now and 2017.
